In response to recent hurricane devastation, Hy-Vee is partnering with the American Red Cross to support recovery efforts through a nationwide fundraising campaign. From now through October 25, shoppers at all Hy-Vee grocery stores across the Twin Cities and the country, including Dollar Fresh Markets, and Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh locations, can round up purchases to the nearest dollar at checkout to help support those affected by the storms.
Extra funds will be donated directly to the American Red Cross, which is actively working to aid individuals and families impacted directly by Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton. Hy-Vee leadership has emphasized the importance of swift action to assist communities in need.
“Hy-Vee has a long tradition of helping communities in need,” said Jeremy Gosch, Hy-Vee’s chairman and CEO. “We know our customers are just as concerned as we are about the welfare of those impacted by these devastating storms, and this is one way we can help those who need assistance as quickly as possible.”
In addition to the register round-up campaign, Hy-Vee is donating significant disaster relief supplies to aid organizations working in the southern U.S. These donations include a large generator/semi-truck, two semi-trucks filled with supplies for Operation BBQ Relief, a nonprofit organization that provides meals to those affected by disasters, and a truckload of water sent to Feeding America-affiliated food banks in impacted areas.
Hy-Vee is deeply committed to helping communities in the immediate aftermath of natural disasters. While the register round up offers an easy way for shoppers to make a difference, Hy-Vee and the American Red Cross also encourage individuals to explore additional ways they can assist those affected by the hurricanes, including through volunteer opportunities.
The American Red Cross relies heavily on volunteers, who make up 90% of the organization’s workforce. Volunteers are urgently needed to help with sheltering, health services, and other disaster response efforts. Those interested in volunteering can find more information about available positions and training opportunities by visiting redcross.org/volunteertoday.
Additionally, natural disasters like hurricanes can often disrupt the normal supply of blood and platelet donations to hospitals in affected regions. With many blood banks experiencing shortages, Hy-Vee is calling on people to schedule blood or platelet donation appointments.
Donations can be arranged through the Red Cross Blood Donor app, by visiting RedCrossBlood.org (http://RedCrossBlood.org), or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (800-733-2767).
For those who may not be able to donate blood or volunteer, financial contributions are another effective way to support the American Red Cross. Donations can be made online at redcross.org/donate, by phone, or by mail.
“Even a small contribution can make a difference,” said Sheletta Brundidge, a regular Hy-Vee shopper in the Twin Cities. “We can reach in our pocketbooks to help people rebuild their lives after everything they’ve known has been turned upside down.”
Every dollar raised goes toward aiding hurricane survivors, providing them with much-needed shelter, food, water, and medical care.
Hy-Vee’s partnership with the American Red Cross and dedication to providing both financial resources and essential supplies highlights the company’s longstanding tradition of giving back to the communities it serves. In times of disaster, the grocery chain is often one of the first organizations to step in and offer support.
As customers visit Hy-Vee stores during this critical period, the company encourages them to consider rounding up their purchases. Any contribution can make a difference in helping those in need, especially when combined with the generosity of others.
