When my husband pulled the new Thor Motor Coach we won from Camping World in front of our house for me and These Brundidge Babies to go for a long ride, I started to think about all my friends and kin folk down south cleaning up after #HurricaneLaura. The high winds and water not only destroyed my father’s hometown of Lake Charles, it also took the lives of five of my family members. While me and my husband were driving, I looked back at my kids and all the toys they were playing with and the books they were reading and thought “Those kids who were impacted by this scary storm lost all their toys and all their books.” I turned to look at my husband and said “This big ole blessing ain’t just for me, or you or our kids. We’re going to turn what’s become known as The Brundidge Bus into The Blessing Bus. Instead of going to a campground on our next family vacation, we’re going to the most devastated parts of Louisiana to pass out free copies of my autism children’s book Cameron Goes To School to any of the kids who want one. We’ll also give free books to librarians, teachers and parents. I’m going to reach out to Mattel and Build A Bear and some other corporate folks who make toys for children to see if they can make a large donation so we have some accompanying things to replace all the toys that these children have lost. We just want to do a small part to put a smile on a child’s face.
